The program is fast-tracked covering one month of advanced classroom training and on the job experience. Courses run three hours 4 days per week covering approximately 48 hours of classroom instruction. The investment in our program is far less than the dollars spent on other common alternatives which often times perpetuates the cycle of negative influences on young people such as incarceration or boot camp. Urban Ed's cost to train, nationally certify and place into employment or other sustainabile options is $1,900 per youth per year as opposed to $24,500 - 47,400 per youth or adult per year for boot camp or for incarceration. This program is also strongly supported and guided by an advisory committee of youth, employers, local government, and local and national nonprofits. This private, public, and grassroots partnership brings together an industry-supported curriculum and job placement to maximize participant's long-term success.
