rban Ed is taking a proactive stance on helping to create employment opportunities.

Our IT Help Desk Apprenticeship is a new initiative to help those that are unemployed and underemployed penetrate the high-demand, and well paying IT sector. Ex-offenders whether first time or returning to the community are also welcome to apply for our program.

The goal of the program is economic security by preparing participants to get globally certified in IT and specifically be ready to work on help desk and Tier 1 IT call centers. Those completing Urban Ed's program will be trained as a computer technician eligible for the following certifications:

  • A+ IT Technician
  • MCITP (Windows 7)
  • HDI customer service representative

Based on a comprehensive, high-quality curriculum this program includes live instructor training, on-the-job training, e-learning and remedial support to ensure successful job placement on a help desk.

Fall 2011 - IT Help Desk Training - ENROLLMENT FOR THIS COURSE IS NOW CLOSED and the Fall 2012 enrollment will reopen on July 1, 2012.

Jobs are at the end of this training so only the serious should apply. When we say are you ready for work? We mean it. Urban Ed will get you "skilled up" for Tier 1 IT jobs. Due to high demand and the intensity of the enrollment process, the 2012 program is expected to start on Tue, October 30, 2012.

The next Information Sessions will be held at Urban Ed at 2041 MLK Jr. Ave., SE, Suite M-2 on:

  • Jul 2012, date TBD @ 11:00 AM, 12 PM and 6:00 PM
  • Aug 2012, date TBD @ 11:00 AM, 12 PM and 6:00 PM
  • Sep 2012 @ 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM

Are you eligible? Urban Ed considers every application for enrollment. However, preference is given to the following:
  • DC Residents
  • Candidates between the ages of 18-30
  • Unemployed and underemployed residents
  • US Citizens
  • GED/HS Diploma
In addition to the application for enrollment, candidates will be required to complete an essay. This requirement is to subsidize the majority of the cost of tuition and fees. Click here to review the Essay Guidelines.
